Washington, Islamabad … News Time

The United States has ignored Pakistan’s efforts to tackle environmental pollution globally. A global summit on climate change is being held in the United States next month in which President Joe Biden sent invitations to the heads of 40 countries, including India. The leaders of China and Bangladesh were also invited to the summit but surprisingly Pakistan was not invited to the summit. Special Assistant Amin Aslam said that Pakistan was not included in the two categories due to which the invitation was not received. The Foreign Ministry has been given the task of clarifying the summit. An online meeting on climate change will be hosted by US President Joe Biden on April 22 and 23. On the other hand, the Foreign Office spokesman said that climate change is a major challenge of the present which can only be tackled through inclusive, cooperative and far-sighted policies while Pakistan is fully committed to play its full role in this war. He said that the meeting was attended by the leaders of the countries around the world which are responsible for 80% of the world’s toxic gas emissions. Responding to a question, the Foreign Office spokesman said that Pakistan’s commitment to tackling climate change and the leadership of Prime Minister Imran Khan in this regard has been well recognized and appreciated all over the world. Government initiatives such as the Billion Tree Tsunami have received international acclaim, including from the World Economic Forum. The spokesperson said that Pakistan, as the Vice President of the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change and a member of the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change, has been instrumental in shaping the global climate change debate. Pakistan also co-chaired the Multibillion-Dollar Green Climate Fund, set up last year to support climate change initiatives in developing countries. Pakistan, despite being among the top 10 countries affected by climate change, has the lowest emission of toxic gases.
