New York … News Time

US begins considering withdrawal of CIA personnel from Afghanistan according to a leading American newspaper The New York Times, the move is aimed at reducing violence in Afghanistan under an agreement reached with the Taliban. The withdrawal of CIA personnel deployed at various bases in Afghanistan, according to the newspaper, is part of the negotiations on the evacuation of international forces stationed in Afghanistan which aims to accelerate progress on a peace treaty that seems to slow down due to violent incidents.

In a deal signed between the United States and the Taliban in Doha, Qatar’s capital, on February 29, the sides agreed to a US military withdrawal from Afghanistan in the event of the Taliban’s negotiations with the Afghan government. The Taliban have long been demanding the withdrawal of US troops and CIA personnel deployed to Afghanistan, which the US has so far rejected. According to the New York Times, there are now hundreds of CIA personnel and contractors deployed in Afghanistan, the largest CIA deployment outside Washington. US officials say the withdrawal of CIA personnel will be part of the overall withdrawal of US troops.

According to the newspaper, a plan supported by President Donald Trump’s administration was to increase the number of CIA personnel stationed there during the withdrawal of US troops from Afghanistan. The deployment of CIA personnel to Afghanistan began eighteen years ago, and their job was to provide advice to Afghan militia groups. Under another plan, CIA personnel will be restricted to the US embassy in the Afghan capital, Kabul and they will continue to consult Afghan militia groups in partnership with the Afghan intelligence agency. According to the newspaper, the project is also under discussion. US officials have expressed hope that talks between the US military’s withdrawal Taliban and the Afghan government will reduce violence. According to Lisa Maddox, a former CIA female officer, the most important thing is that no terrorist group can establish a state within the state in Afghanistan.
