European Union diplomat Josep Borrell is expected to visit Iran today after tensions over the nuclear issue. According to Iranian Foreign Ministry spokesman Abbas Mousavi, Abbas Mousavi will visit Iran for the first time since taking office in Josep Borrell (early December), he will meet Foreign Minister Mohammad Jawad Zarif and other top Iranian officials. Abbas Mousavi did not give any details about when Josep Borrell would arrive or how much time he would spend in the country. His visit comes amid intense tensions between Iran and the West over the nuclear program of the Islamic Republic. On January 24, Bourl called for a meeting in February between the remaining sides of the 2015 nuclear deal to save the deal which is set to expire in 2018 following the unilateral withdrawal of the United States. He said at the time that all sides had reaffirmed their intention to save the deal, which was in everyone’s interest.
