According to foreign media, there is no mention of any foreign aid in the budget approved by the Taliban. “This is the first time in two decades that we have created a budget that is not dependent on foreign aid and this is a great achievement for us,” said Ahmad Wali Haqmal, a spokesman for the Taliban’s finance ministry. The spokesman added that women who have been barred from coming to work will not be fired and will be paid. Government employees who have not received their salaries for several months will start paying their salaries by the end of January. The Taliban government approved the budget for the first quarter of 2022. Almost the entire budget of AFN 53.9 billion or US 50 508 million has been allocated for funding government agencies. The budget will spend 4.7 billion afghanis on development projects, including transport infrastructure.
