PML-N suffers from political confusion

PML-N suffers from political confusion

News Time

The recent contradictory statements of the PML-N leadership on the current political strategy of Pakistan’s largest opposition party, the PML-N, are once again the subject of debate. In particular, the market for comments on this interview of former Prime Minister Shahid Khaqan Abbasi in which he said that there is no fight with our establishment. When there was no fighting, what was the point of peace? Earlier, Maryam Nawaz’s spokesperson and former Sindh Governor Zubair Umar had even said that reconciliation had been reached with our establishment and the present ruling party was having difficulty in digesting this. This change in the PML-N’s political rhetoric has been seen since the party president Shahbaz Sharif was not only released on bail from jail but the court also allowed him to leave the country. It is a different matter that the government did not allow him to go to Britain and sent him back home from the airport. There have been a number of incidents that have caused this current confusion.

The arrest of party leader Javed Latif on charges of treason and Maryam Nawaz Sharif’s visit to Sheikhupura to express solidarity and reiterate Nawaz Sharif’s anti-establishment rhetoric, have left observers confused. After his release, Shahbaz Sharif has been going one by one to the homes of the workers and leaders who suffered in his absence, but he has not yet visited Javed Latif’s house in Sheikhupura. Similarly, the incidents with Javed Hashmi (demolition of his family property) and the party’s stance have added to this hesitation. When Javed Hashmi used harsh language in a video log against the establishment, party spokesperson Maryam Aurangzeb issued a statement saying that Javed Hashmi’s statement was his personal position and not party policy. On this too, the activists of the League on social media resented it to some extent and termed it as the reason for Shahbaz Sharif’s policy of reconciliation. On the demolition of commercial property belonging to Javed Hashmi’s family, Maryam Nawaz has sharply criticized the government without giving her name, which makes it even clearer which way the party will go at that time.

Shahbaz Sharif’s policy of reconciliation or Nawaz Sharif’s statement of confrontation because since the release of party president Shahbaz Sharif from jail, his entire focus has been on governance issues or the campaign in favor of Palestine. However, his statements do not show any sign of confrontation and his son and Punjab opposition leader Hamza Shahbaz is also following in his father’s footsteps. In this regard, political analyst Mujeeb-ur-Rehman Shami thinks that it can be called confusion to some extent, but I do not think it is a situation of conflict within the party. Talking to Urdu News, he said that since Shahbaz Sharif is the president of the party and he has his own style of politics and he has always played a role in reducing the conflict. This situation will improve when Nawaz and Shahbaz meet. It will also determine the direction of the party. He added that the confusion was due to the fact that the next course of action was not yet in sight. Will PDM politics continue or will PML-N rely on parliamentary politics? There is a dilemma, but this situation has been in this party before. The difference now is that both sides are active in their own way and there is no fear of harm.

Analyst Mazhar Abbas also more or less thinks that it is too early to say anything. He said that we cannot say that the PML-N has changed its position or is suffering from the situation before the change of position because right now they’re on a wait-and-see policy. According to him, this is the reason why Shahbaz Sharif is mobilizing himself on Palestine and Corona issues as he is not in a hurry to take a decisive position yet. Referring to Shahbaz Sharif, Mazhar Abbas further said that in any case, his coming out has changed the way PML-N leaders speak and everyone is waiting for the party to come up with a clear policy. The next position will be clear. Until then, such statements will continue to be seen.
