North Korea conducted another missile test in defiance of US sanctions. According to news agencies, Pyongyang in its statement on Friday called the new US sanctions provocative and threatened a strong response. According to media reports, Korea and Japan are deeply concerned about the successive missile tests and have described the incidents as a threat to peace and national security in the region. South Korea’s Joint Chiefs of Staff (JCS) said North Korea fired two short-range ballistic missiles east of North Pyongyang Province near the Chinese border on North Korea’s west coast. Japan’s coast guard also reported that North Korea had conducted a test, possibly a ballistic missile. A Japanese defense ministry official says the missiles apparently fell into the sea outside Japan’s exclusive economic zone. Hirokazu Matsuno, a member of the Japanese cabinet, said in a statement that North Korea’s actions and repeated ballistic missile tests were a threat to the security of our nation and the region. The U.S. military’s Indo-Pacific Command said in a statement that the experiments did not pose an immediate threat to the United States or its allies.
