President Dr Arif Alawi appointed United National Movement (MQM) Pakistan Senator Barrister Saif as the Presiding Officer to chair the meeting August 1 on a motion of no-confidence motion against the Chairman and Deputy Chairman Senate. President appointed Barrister Saif as presiding officer, according to a statement from the President’s Office and he will preside over a resolution meeting against the chairman and the deputy chairman. On the recommendation of the Law Ministry, the President called the Senate on August 1 where there will be a vote on the resolution against Chairman Senate Sadiq Sanjrani and Deputy Chairman Senate Saleem Mandviwala.

However, after the resolution, Chairman Senate Sadiq Sanjrani had said that he would not voluntarily step down. On July 11, the Leader of the Opposition unanimously nominated National Party (NP) chief Senator Mir Hasal Khan Bizenjo for the chairman’s Senate. The next day, the ruling Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) had also filed a motion against the Deputy Chairman Salim Mandviwala.
