A new report from the World Food Program, the Food and Agriculture Organization and 14 other organizations warns that the economic effects of the coronavirus epidemic could starve more than 250 million people worldwide. Lisa Schlein said in her report that the report of international organizations states that before the epidemic, some 1.3 billion people around the world are facing severe food shortages and severe hunger. But the report states that if immediate and appropriate steps are not taken in this regard, the numbers will more than double by the end of the year.

According to the report, the causes are conflicts in different parts of the world, climate change and the economic crisis, with the continent of Africa being the hardest hit, followed by Asia and then Latin America. The report added that 77% of those affected are those who live in areas where conflicts of various kinds are underway. Arif Hussein, chief economist for the World Food Program, told Voice of America that countries in southern Sudan, Yemen, the Democratic Republic of the Congo, Afghanistan and Syria are in serious danger.

Talking about this, Zafar Bukhari, a prominent economist and professor at the University of Chicago, said that five of these countries are the ones that have always been suffering from hunger. He said that even more important than the availability of food at present is the issue of logistics, how to deliver the available food to the needy and how to distribute it when it reaches the destination. There, too, the problem of transportation becomes a hindrance. Global institutions have to rely on local governments there and they use this food for their own benefit.

The UN and aid agencies estimate they will need $ 10-12 billion this year to cope with the expected food crisis. But those companies say they need $ 1.9 billion to make sure they get enough food for the next three months.
