After intensifying anti-government demonstrations, Lebanese Prime Minister Saad al-Hariri has resigned, saying he has reached a closed street, presenting his resignation to the president. According to foreign media, Lebanese Prime Minister Saad al-Hariri addressed the nation on TV on Tuesday, saying that he had reached a closed street and would submit his resignation to Lebanese President Michel Aoun. Over the past 2 weeks in Lebanon, protesters have been protesting against corruption and national leaders, the protests on Monday turned violent when a crowd of Hezbollah and Amal Movement supporters attacked and destroyed a protest camp in Beirut.

According to Arab News, Saad al-Hariri said on TV that the Lebanese people had been searching for a political solution for 13 days that could prevent economic deterioration, during this time I tried to find a way through which people’s voices could be heard. He said that the time has come for us to take a big shock to face the crisis; I am going to the Presidential Palace to resign, I would like to say to all colleagues of political life that today we have a responsibility to protect Lebanon and restore its economy. Demonstrators demand that reforms be made to Lebanon’s political system and that the rulers must resign. Lebanese President Michel Aoun said in his address that he would not give up his position; the government could not change overnight, so constitutional reforms are necessary.
