A survey by Japan’s central bank has revealed that about 60% of the country’s financial institutions do not have the staff to handle cyber-attacks. The Bank of Japan asked 402 financial institutions last year whether they had ever been exposed to cyber attacks, and what actions they had taken. 39% said they had experienced cyber attacks between 2017 and 2019. 10% said the attacks affected their work and administrative affairs.  Up to 59 percent of organizations said they did not have a sufficient number of staff to develop a cyber-attacks system. Only 44% said they practiced restoration of systems destroyed or replaced by cyber-attacks. However, 90% of the institutions have rehabilitation plans. Important infrastructure attacks are reported before the 2020 Tokyo Olympics and the Paralympics. The Bank of Japan is calling on financial institutions to take security measures.
