Maulana Fazlur Rehman had started politics after the demise of Mufti Mahmood by opposing General Zia-ul-Haq and from jail and was resisting General Zia-ul-Haq’s dictatorship by being a part of PPP-led MRD. After the election results came out, General Aslam Baig called DI Khan under the guise of congratulating him and expressed his desire to support Nawaz Sharif. The next day, Mian Nawaz Sharif reached out to him and offered him all kinds of greed.
Maulana insisted that since he (Nawaz Sharif) was a man in Zia-ul-Haq’s camp, he could not take the uterus. A few days later, Maulana convened a meeting of his party’s shura in Lahore to decide whether to support or oppose the election of a prime minister. A day before the meeting, he received a sudden call from Saudi Arabia to the Secretary General of Rabita-e-Alam-e-Islami that his representative in Lahore wanted to meet him. Khalid Khawaja and others also came in between. A few moments later, Maulana received a call from a Saudi, mentioned by the General Secretary of Rabita-e-Alam-e-Islami. His name was Sheikh Sawaf, some people had misrepresented him about Sheikh Sawaf and I myself initially thought that he was Osama bin Laden. The meeting took place in a room of a five-star hotel in Lahore and some say that Nawaz Sharif himself was present in the other room. Sheikh Sawaf asked Maulana Fazlur Rehman to support Nawaz Sharif. He also argued that the rule of women is forbidden in Islam and if he did so, he would get statements from scholars all over the Arab world in favor of Maulana that he blocked the way for women’s rule. Maulana apologized to him saying that this decision was to be taken by his shura. Meanwhile, Sheikh Sawaf also offered him crores of riyals in gestures, which Maulana resented.
On the other hand, General Hameed Gul also used all tactics but Maulana Fazlur Rehman did not vote for Mian Nawaz Sharif and paved the way for Benazir Bhutto’s rule. When it came to the presidential election, General Aslam Baig called him home and asked him to support Ghulam Ishaq, but Maulana made Nawabzada Nasrullah stand. These were Maulana Fazlur Rehman of the early days who, like his predecessors, were moving in the opposite direction of the Establishment. However, when Deobandi became the favorite of the Taliban Establishment in Afghanistan, Maulana Fazlur Rehman not only became friends The politics of expediency started and continued till 2018 but after the election Maulana got angry for two reasons. On the one hand, they understand and rightly believe that they were deceived and manipulated. Second, they believe in conspiracy theories about Imran Khan. After the 2018 elections, when the PPP and the PML-N were busy trying to reach a deal, they continued to oppose Maulana Fazlur Rehman, Imran Khan and their facilitators. He came to Islamabad last year to hold a sit-in and now his anger has been compounded by the fact that the promises on which he was raised have not been fulfilled. When the deals between the PPP and the PML-N failed, the PPP went ahead and called the APC and formed the PDM to make Maulana Fazlur Rehman its president. Initially, both parties were very aggressive.
Mian Sahib started naming names and the PPP even included Mohsin Dawar of the Pakhtun Tehfeez Movement in the PDM, but when contacts were made with the PPP, it again turned to the politics of expediency. Now the PML-N is working hard and to a large extent it has also become a double standard but Maulana’s tone is becoming more and bitterer. Attempts are being made to hold Maulana alone and settle accounts with him, but on the one hand, Maulana will never be completely alone this time, and on the other hand, Maulana will suffer the loss, but if an attempt is made to put him against the wall. If done, this process will be as beneficial for Imran Khan as it will be detrimental to the state. At present, in the tribal districts and Balochistan, either the PTM’s statement or the Baloch nationalists’ statement is going on. So far, in both fault lines, I have been cornering these forces because she was talking about Islam and Pakistan. Now, if Maulana also starts using language like Manzoor Pashtun, Mahmood Khan Achakzai and Akhtar Mengal, there will be no political force left to defend the state in these areas. Then I submit that Imran Khan will benefit but the state will suffer.
Right now, the rhetoric of Maulana and nationalist leaders is softening due to national and forced parties like PML-N and PPP, but if this umbrella of national parties is removed from the PDM, then those people related to state institutions It is not uncommon for his tone and actions to become more bitter. It should also be kept in mind that Maulana Fazlur Rehman is of Afghan descent; his Nasir tribe had migrated from Afghanistan to DI Khan in the past. In the last 20 years we have seen Maulana doing Hamid Karzai style politics but if he is attached to the wall then Khakim Badhan, he can become Mullah Omar. Therefore, I request that Maulana be allowed to remain Hamid Karzai, not be forced to become Mullah Omar. The rest is up to those who run their own affairs in Pakistan.
