Queen of the Netherlands Maxima arrives in Pakistan on November 25 for a three-day visit. In addition to meeting the Prime Minister of the Netherlands Maxima Prime Minister Imran Khan and President Arif Alawi will also attend the opening ceremony of the State Bank’s Micro Payment Gateway program. Queen Maxima is from the Argentinian city of Buenos Aires, where she was born and raised. A keen observer of royal family affairs, Maxima received a bachelor’s degree in economics from the Pontifical Catholic University of Argentina in 1995 and then a master’s degree in the United States. Maxima met her husband, King Willem Alexander, in Spain in 1999. They were married in Amsterdam on February 2, 2002, and have three daughters.
Queen Maxima’s parents did not attend the wedding because of concern in the Netherlands his father Jorge Zorreguieta was a part of the cabinet in Argentina during the dictatorial regime in the 1970s and 1980s, during which thousands of rivals were killed or disappeared. Maxima became queen of the Netherlands in 2013, when her husband’s mother, Queen María del Carmen Cerruti Carricart, took the throne in favor of her son. He has been associated with the welfare of immigrants and the rehabilitation work in the Netherlands for many years. In 2009, UN Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon appointed her as the UN Special Envoy for the United Nations Assistance Mission in Development. This will be Queen Maxima’s second visit to Pakistan. Earlier, she came to Pakistan in 2016.
