The leadership of PML-N is concerned that the provincial caretaker government can sabotage the proposed superb reception plan of Sharif and Maryam by arresting former party workers. The concerns about possible crackdown were discussed in the meeting held in Model Town under the leadership of party President Shahbaz Sharif. Some league sources claim that the provincial caretaker government has directed Crime branch to prepare lists of dynamic Muslim league officials and workers.
In the party’s high level meeting, Nawaz Sharif and his daughter’s flight was decided to take place in Lahore instead of Islamabad. Currently, President Shahbaz Sharif has directed party officials and candidates of other cities of Punjab, including Lahore to lead small rallies to their areas. Youth Wing workers have been advised to reach Lahore on Thursday, so that they can avoid potential cracks and rushes in their respective cities. According to party sources, workers’ target was kept 10 to 15 thousand in Islamabad. However, at least 50 to 60 thousand workers have been given a task to welcome Nawaz Sharif on Lahore Airport.
Sources say that the leadership believes that if such a number of workers reached the airport to welcome Nawaz Sharif it can be a game changer to increase psychological pressure on the opposing forces and win the election. Nawaz Sharif and Maryam Nawaz discussed the meeting with the preparations of Nawaz Sharif that when the arrest of thousands of workers in front of national and international TV channels, it would be the biggest tasting of the election campaign. According to sources, Party leadership has directed workers to strictly direct the employees and ticket holders to avoid any collision in the case of arrests.
