UN Security Council will meet today to discuss Syria, diplomatic sources

The United Nations Security Council is holding a meeting to discuss the Syrian crisis today on the request of the US. This progress has come after the Syrian government rejects the formation of a new constitution drafting committee in the United Nations patronage. According to diplomatic sources, Syrian envoy to Syria Staffan de Mistura failed to obtain the approval of the government regarding the constitutional committee. The decision to formulate this committee was held in January this year in the Swiss Conference held in Russia. Remember that Staffan de Mistura will not be able to share in personally in the meeting of the Security Council However; they will become part of the conference through the video. Staffan de Mistura has announced that at the end of November, before retirement from the Special Envoy they want to work on removing obstacles in the formation of Syria Constitutional Committee during the past.

Staffan de Mistura told the Security Council that the people who were elected to membership committee of Bashar al-Assad did not agree. He emphasized that the necessity is that no party could overcome this committee. Although Western countries constitutional committee formation is demanding speed so that political process can be started again however, the difference between the Syrian government and the opposition is apparently visible. Talking to the Constitution near the Syrian government and all matters related to this matter, no external intervention is allowed. On the other hand, the Syrian opposition is demanding a new constitution.
