Washington … News Time

America’s efforts to restore the Afghan peace process are aimed at reassuring friends and opponents that Washington remains committed to a political solution in Afghanistan despite recent obstacles. The statement was issued when US Special Envoy for Afghanistan Zalmay Khalilzad completed his efforts to restore peace talks. And it was emphasized that Washington would continue to support a political solution to ending the war in Afghanistan. Moreover, the US believes that reducing violence is essential to bringing lasting peace to Afghanistan. Remember that in September, the United States and the Taliban came close to reaching an agreement to end the 18-year war. But the Taliban’s attack in Kabul killed 12 people, including two US soldiers that ended the effort. At that time, both Taliban leaders and Afghan President Ashraf Ghani met with US President Donald Trump in Kabul to sign the agreement. However, the US president canceled the visit a few hours before the arrival, saying that negotiations would only be restored if the fight was stopped.
