Government buildings have been handed over to the army after violent protests for the second night in a row in the Tunisian capital and other cities. Troops stormed all government buildings and public installations in Sousse, Siliana, Bizerte and Kasserine provinces on Monday after two days of violent protests, according to news agencies. Violent clashes between protesters and police continued for two days. More than 600 people have been detained so far, most of them under the age of 20. Walid Hkima, a spokesman for the Internal Security Forces, said the arrested boys and minors had vandalized people’s property and tried to rob shops and banks. Tunisia is on the brink of a decade of popular revolutions against poverty, corruption and injustice, but 10 years after the fall of former dictator Zine El Abidine’s government, the North African Arab country’s economy continues to thrive. I have not improved. However, in the meantime, it has certainly made progress towards democracy. Presidential and parliamentary elections have been held several times in the last 10 years. As a result, the transfer of power has been completed peacefully. Despite this improvement in the political arena, the economic problems remain the same and have not diminished. At present, the country is on the verge of bankruptcy, while the state of public services has deteriorated.
