New Delhi … News Time

India’s ruling party, the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), has suffered the worst defeat in the elections to the capital New Delhi and the Aam Aadmi Party has won the elections by winning 62 of the 70 seats. Voting on 70 state election seats took place on January 8, and the counting process was completed Tuesday. According to French news agency AFP, the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) needed to win 36 seats to maintain its power in the capital but according to the final results released on Tuesday, Arvind Kejriwal’s party won 62 out of 70 seats in the best run.

According to Indian media reports, Arvind Kejriwal will likely be sworn in as Chief Minister of New Delhi on February 16. It should be noted that this is another blow to Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s government during the last two years, where he is facing constant failures in regional elections. It is worth mentioning here that the Bharatiya Janata Party had achieved a remarkable victory in Delhi in the general elections last year, irrespective of the regional elections. Constant defeat in regional elections will only aggravate Modi government’s problems, it is facing severe criticism across the country due to the new controversial citizenship law and experts are calling it the main reason for the defeat of the Modi government in Delhi.

Despite the worst defeat in New Delhi, the BJP increased its number of seats in Delhi to five more seats and increased the number of seats from 3 to 8. The Aam Aadmi Party won 67 seats in the Delhi Assembly’s 70 seats in 2015, which is a record. Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi congratulated his rival Arvind Kejriwal on the success of the Delhi elections and said that I wish him good wishes for meeting the expectations of the people of Delhi.

Mamata Banerjee, the Chief Minister of the Indian state of West Bengal, called the victory of the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) against the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) in the New Delhi elections a violation of Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s controversial policies. New Delhi Chief Minister and AAP leader Arvind Kejriwal termed the success of New Delhi’s state elections as the beginning of new politics. “I want to thank the people of New Delhi who made their son successful once again,” he said while addressing workers. Aam Aadmi Party leader said today that New Delhi has laid the foundation of new politics in the history of India and this is performance politics. The ruling BJP tries to use the controversial citizenship law as a major success in the Delhi election campaign. But the use of this law, which was rejected throughout the country, resulted in Modi’s party being defeated once again in the capital.

It should be noted that there were intense protests against controversial citizenship laws across India, including the capital New Delhi, and at least 25 people were killed as a result of the violence. Even before the elections, the BJP leaders had aggressively announced to deal with protesters against the citizenship law if elected. A deputy minister of the Bharatiya Janata Party, during the election rally, declared the protesters a traitor, shouting slogans at them, which they had to ban, following his slogan, three incidents of firing were reported on demonstrations in Delhi. Another minister of the ruling party termed Arvind Kejriwal a terrorist, while some sections of the BJP declared him an agent of Pakistan. Manish Sisodia, deputy head of the Aam Aadmi Party, said the BJP was politicizing hatred.

Meanwhile, one of the activists was killed in firing on the convoy of a successful Aam Aadmi Party leader after the election results came up on Tuesday. Unlike the BJP, 51-year-old Kejriwal participated in the polls, raising voices against the problems and corruption of the locals. He successfully tackled long-standing issues such as protection of women as chief minister of water and electricity, which enabled him to gain public confidence. In the Delhi elections, the largest leader Gandhi and Nehru Congress had to be raised, which could not win any of the 70 seats in the capital. The Congress had ruled Delhi for 15 years before this, but in 2013 Arvind Kejriwal defeated him and made the government for the first time.
