Turkey’s President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan told the BBC that if the EU says that it cannot accept Turkey as a member, it will be Turkey’s satisfaction. Speaking to the BBC program HARDtalk’s Zeinab Badawi, he said Turkey is able to stand on its feet. Recep Tayyip Erdogan denied that 150 journalists in Turkey have been kept in jail. Turkey’s President said only 2 people with press cards were in jail. Their claim has come at a time when Turkey has extended the custody of local director of human rights organization Amnesty International and others. It is clear that during the July 5 Digital Security and Information Management workshop, Director of Immunity International Idil Eser was arrested with 7 workers working for human rights and 2 foreign trainers. These 10 people have been accused of being members of a armed terrorist organization, although Amnesty International says it is not clear which organization is. The arrest of these individuals has increased the international fear that expression of freedom in President Erdogan’s government is being pressed. This concern has deteriorated Turkey’s EU membership, but Recep Tayyip Erdogan has accused Turkey of taking the time to Turkey. Recep Tayyip Erdogan told the BBC We are sincere with our view, if the European Union says it is not capable of accepting Turkey in the organization, it is due to us. Then we will start our plan B and C. The EU is not inevitable for us, we are calm. Recep Tayyip Erdogan said that the majority of Turkey does not want to join the EU now, and they believe it is not sincere to think about the EU’s EU.
