Heavy rains and snowfall in Syria have forced displaced people to flee their makeshift shelters. According to news agencies, floods in Idlib and Aleppo provinces have turned 87 tent settlements into lakes. Temperatures have dropped there and more than 20,000 homeless people are forced to freeze in the open air. One child has died of a severe cold, according to human rights groups. More than 1.5 million people were temporarily housed in the slums. 80% of them are women and children. In the 10 years since Assad’s bombing of Syria, 12 million people have been displaced. Of these, 6.6 million are homeless in the country, while 5.6 million have managed to seek refuge abroad.

Sherine Ibrahim, head of the Turkish organization Care, said her organization was trying to provide emergency assistance to thousands of displaced people in Aleppo and Idlib. Roads are blocked by floods and operations are hampered. He feared that the situation could lead to an increase in the spread of the corona virus. Inadequate shelter and growing hunger have led to a severe crisis. During the operations since Sunday, officials from various aid organizations provided assistance to 3,200 victims in 2,500 camps.
