After the Sharif brothers’ London presence and Maryam Nawaz’s silence, the question is being raised as to who is running the PML-N? There is a concern among the PML-N activists about the silence of Maryam Nawaz. It seems that the control of the PML-N has been handed over to Shahid Khaqan and Ahsan Iqbal. But in this situation, news of differences between two senior leaders of the Pakistan Muslim League-N, Khawaja Asif and Shahid Khaqan Abbasi, is circulating. Khawaja Asif does not appear to be participating in the activities of the PML-N; it seems that party affairs are currently being run by Shahid Khaqan Abbasi and Ahsan Iqbal.
Presenting an analysis in this regard, senior journalist Irshad Arif says new leadership is launching within the PML-N. The strongest candidate is Shahid Khaqan Abbasi because Nawaz Sharif will hardly come back. If Maryam Nawaz is gone and Shahbaz Sharif does not come, then a leader is needed. On the other hand, Arif Nizami added that Shahbaz Sharif has imposed duty on some people to be reconciled. But there seems to be no reconciliation between Khawaja Asif and Shahid Khaqan Abbasi. He further said that Asif Ali Zardari made Yousuf Raza Gilani prime minister, if it were Sharif brothers, this would not have happened, he should make Shahid Khaqan Abbasi an opposition leader.
It may be recalled that former defense minister Khawaja Asif’s claim of bitterness with Maryam Nawaz has also surfaced. Interviewing a private TV channel, senior journalist Sabir Shakir said that PML-N vice president Maryam Nawaz telephoned the former foreign minister in which Maryam Nawaz said that I was not asked about the amendment to the Army Act. He said it was too soon that the PPP and other parties were not consulted. In response, Khawaja Asif said that the current situation of the party is because of your statement.
