According to officials in Japan, 8 fishermen allegedly belonging to North Korea have been detained on the coast of Japan. There were 8 people riding on the boat that reached Japan’s coast, claiming that they are fishermen from North Korea and their boat has reached Japan due to storm. These men told the authorities that their boat was damaged and they did not come up with North Korea. It is clear that North Korean fishing boats regularly come to the coastal areas of Japan and its Coast Guard has to save those fishermen sometimes. Authorities say these people were capable of walking without any help, and were sent to a Korean translator for further investigation, according to Japan’s Broadcaster Ange. Hachiro Okonogo, president of Japan’s National Public Safety Commission, told reporters that those people had said that they were in the northeast coast of Japan when their boat was damaged. According to Japanese media, these people apparently were trying to catch the squid fish.
