Pakistan’s Armed Forces have reacted strongly to a special court verdict in a serious treason case against former military president General Pervez Musharraf and has said that the decision ignores the legal process. The special court on Tuesday ordered Musharraf to be sentenced to death in a serious treason case and found guilty of breaking the constitution. They have been tried under Section 6 of the Constitution of Pakistan. Under this, anyone who commits a breach of the Constitution is punished with death.

In response to the decision, Major General Asif Ghafoor, Director General of Public Relations (ISPR), Pakistan Army, issued a stern statement. He has said that the special court’s decision against retired General Pervez Musharraf found severe anger, pain and anxiety in the ranks of the Pakistan army. He believes that Pervez Musharraf was the country’s President, Army Chief and Chairman Joint Chiefs of Staff Committee. He has served the country for 40 years, fought wars to defend it; he certainly cannot be a traitor.

He said the special court did not meet the legal process requirements in the case of Pervez Musharraf in eye. The case has been dealt with individually and dealt with promptly. The spokesman said the former president was also denied the basic right to defend himself. Armed forces expect justice to be done under the constitution of the Islamic Republic of Pakistan.
