Moscow … News time

A senior North Korean diplomat has again rejected the possibility of holding talks on the country’s nuclear program with the US Trump administration. Choe Son Hui, the chief of the North American department of the North Korean Foreign Ministry, spoke to reporters at a hotel in Moscow on Sunday. She had attended a conference on nuclear nonproliferation held in the Russian capital. Referring to the six-party talks on North Korea’s nuclear program, Choe said she had declared at the conference her country would not respond to negotiations that are held on the premise of the North’s denuclearization. On talks with the Trump administration, she said Pyongyang does not feel the need to respond to a dialogue that uses a maximum level of pressure to make the North abandon its nuclear program. Choe said North Korea’s ultimate goal is to achieve a balance of power with the United States. She said her country needs more nuclear deterrence capability while military provocations by the US continue.
