Secret meetings are under way to form a new government in Iraq. Ahead of the meetings, a correspondent for Al Arabiya / Al-Hadath reported that Quds Force Commander Ismail Qaani had arrived in Baghdad. Ismail Qaani, commander of the Quds Force, the organization responsible for the Iranian Revolutionary Guards’ overseas operations, is on an unannounced visit to Najaf for the first time since leaving for Baghdad. The visit comes at a sensitive time when a meeting between the leaders of his party and the Muqtada al-Sadr group is expected at the home of former Prime Minister Hadi al-Amiri in the next few hours. The formation and modalities of the new government will be discussed. Al-Arabiya / Al-Hadath sources reported that a meeting was held on Saturday night to discuss the formation of the government, which was attended by Muqtada al-Sadr and Hadi al-Amiri. According to media reports, Sadr (Muqtada al-Sadr) insisted on forming a national majority government without considering any other possibility. “Anything to form a united government is tantamount to suicide,” he said.
