In April this year, the former Emperor Naruhito of Japan was separated from the kingdom and throne. He was the first Japanese Emperor in 200 years to step down from his throne in his life. After Akihito’s separation from Emperor, his son, 59-year-old Naruhito, took office on May 1, 2019. He also delivered his first address after he took office on May 1st. Naruhito held an official ceremony to take over the throne in May; however, he was now officially enthroned under the traditional Emperor system and became the 126th Emperor of Japan.

According to news agency Associated Press (AP), the heads of different countries of the world and Emperor participated in the ceremony to take over Naruhito’s throne. The new Emperor also hosted a banquet for global guests attending the event. It is believed that Naruhito was Crown Prince before he became king and he became Crown Prince at the age of 25. His father, Akihito, signaled separation from the throne in 2016 due to rising age and illness, after which the Japanese parliament amended the royal rules. After amending the royal rules, Akihito announced in 2017 that he would step down from the throne on April 30, 2019, and this year he was separated from the throne as promised. In Japan’s 200-year history, he was the first Emperor to rule the throne, and Naruhito is also the first Emperor to take over the throne after a living Emperor. Emperor Naruhito’s era has been named “Reiwa”, while his father and former Emperor Akihito era was called Heisei. The Emperor in Japan also shifts away from being replaced, and his name is announced before the new Emperor takes office. It should be noted that the crowning ceremony in Japan will be celebrated for a week.
