Japan’s Emperor Naruhito and Queen Masako’s visit have been postponed due to a global outbreak of British coronavirus. According to the Japanese Broadcasting Agency, the Japanese Imperial couple was due to leave for the United Kingdom for a one-week visit in early May as a guest. This visit would be the Emperor’s first foreign visit since his enthronement last year. Japanese officials, including the Imperial Affairs Agency, were due to visit the UK later this month to confirm the Imperial couple’s travel plans and security arrangements.

On the other hand, Japanese government officials have canceled a banquet to be held next month in connection with the ceremony to recognize as Crown Prince Akishino. According to the Japanese Broadcasting Agency, the Japanese government convened a state event committee to discuss the events leading up to the succession of to the Crown Prince Akishino. Under which the celebrations took place on April 19 at the Royal Palace in Tokyo. Prime Minister Shinzo Abe said the banquet has been canceled in view of the global outbreak of the new Coronavirus.
