Japan’s Chief Cabinet Secretary Yoshihide Suga has welcomed the European Union’s decision to soften import restrictions on Japanese goods. Talking to reporters here, Yoshihide Suga said that the European Commission will soften sanctions from November 14. The European Union has declared radiation tests and safety certificates necessary for agricultural and fishing products of 12 prefectures since the 2011 Fukushima Daiichi nuclear power plant crash. He said the decision was the result of a meeting between Prime Minister Shinzo Abe and European Commission President Jean-Claude Juncker in September. Yoshihide Suga said that the government will try to remove all restrictions on Japanese food products after the nuclear accident.
