Tokyo … News Time

The Japanese government has confirmed that it is considering sending troops in the name of the Self Defense Force to ensure the safety of Japan-affiliated ships in the Middle East. This will be Japan’s first opportunity to engage in any such operation in the Middle East. According to media reports, a Japanese official said that Tokyo would not join the US-led coalition for sailing protection. The Japanese military will work only to protect Japanese ships. The Japanese TV channel also reported that its activities would be in the waters outside Strait of Hormuz to avoid conflict with Iran. Japanese media also confirmed that the Japanese government is carefully considering the timing of the deployment of these troops. The Japanese force’s activity will be far from the Gulf, officials insist. The army will be deployed to international waters off the Gulf of Oman and the northern Arabian Sea, Strait of Hormuz and Yemen. Japanese forces’ activities will also include dealing with piracy on the African coast in the Gulf of Aden. Japan is also considering the possibility of sending Maritime Self-Defense Forces patrols and planes to the area.

Japan’s National Security Council October 18 held a meeting on the situation in the Middle East in the meantime; there was a call to consider sending a self-defense force to the Middle East to ensure the safety of ships connected to Japan. Until now, the Japanese government has been monitoring the movements of other countries in the region. Ever since the tensions in the region have started to raise Saudi Arabia, the United Arab Emirates, the United Kingdom and other countries have announced the joining of a US-led coalition to protect shipping at the Strait of Hormuz.
