Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s office said the prime minister spoke by telephone with Moroccan King Mohammed VI on Friday and invited him to visit Israel. A statement from the Israeli prime minister’s office said the two leaders agreed to move forward on the basis of a bilateral peace agreement. Recently, with the help of the United States, Morocco decided to normalize relations with Israel. Netanyahu thanked the Moroccan king for hosting Rabat during an Israeli government delegation’s visit to Morocco this week. The Moroccan royal court said in a statement that King Mohammed VI highlighted the close ties between Moroccan Jews and the royal establishment. The king welcomed the resumption of relations with Israel, but said his country’s position on the Palestinian issue had not changed. It is noteworthy that on December 10, Morocco announced the resumption of its relations with Israel. A joint Israeli-US delegation arrived in Morocco on Tuesday. The Israeli delegation was led by Meir Ben-Shabbat, a Moroccan Jew.
