The Indian court will hear petitions filed against the government’s move to abolish the special status acquired under Article 370 and 35-A of the Constitution of Kashmir Valley. The number of applications filed is 14. The Modi government nominated by the ruling extremist Hindu Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) in India on August 5 abolished Article 370 of the country’s constitution and imposed a curfew in the Chinar Valley, which is still intact. According to the media, a five-member bench of the Supreme Court of India will hear 14 petitions filed against the elimination of Articles 370 and 35-A. The five-member bench will be headed by Justice NV Ramana while Justice Sanjay Kishan Kaul, Justice Ramayyagari Subhash Reddy, Justice Ranjan Gogoi and Justice Surya Kant will be part of the bench. A three-member bench, headed by Chief Justice Ranjan Gogoi, heard the petition filed August 28 against the termination of the semi-autonomous status of the occupied Kashmir Valley. The apex court had announced a five-member constitutional bench. The Supreme Court also issued notices to the federal government and other parties on the removal of Articles 370 and 35-A.
