Palestinian officials have threatened that if US President Donald Trump announces a Middle East peace plan, he will withdraw from the key clauses of the Oslo Accords. It should be noted that the key provisions of the Oslo Accords that threaten to withdraw explain the relationship with Israel. According to foreign news agency AFP, senior Palestinian leader and head of the Palestinian administration’s negotiation affairs, Saeb Erekat, said that if Donald Trump announces his peace plan, the Palestinian Liberation Organization has the full right to ‘withdraw from the interim agreement’ of the crucial deal of the Oslo Accords. He said Trump’s move would turn Israel’s temporary occupation of Palestinian territory into permanent occupation.

The Palestinian Authority (PA) earlier warned US President Donald Trump’s announcement of a Middle East peace plan our people will not accept that Israel and the US do not violate international law. Talking to reporters after attending the World Economic Forum meeting in Davos trump acknowledged that the Palestinians may initially react negatively to the plan, but it is in fact positive for them.

Israeli Prime Minister Netanyahu, on the other hand, accepted Washington’s invitation to visit and said it was a great project, a plan that would be truly useful. Remember that peace talks between Israel and Palestine were ended in 2014, and Palestine rejected it before Trump offered the peace plan. With regard to Trump’s plan, the Palestinian leadership was of the view that since the US president’s policies are pro-Israel, his agreement would not be acceptable. And he also boycotted political meetings with the Trump administration.

Palestine rejects Trump administration’s decision to recognize Jerusalem as Israel’s capital which was also supported by other countries globally. Palestine and the international community declare Israeli settlements illegal under the Geneva Convention 1949 which relates to the land occupied during the war, while Israel calls Jerusalem the center of it. The US president announces the occupation of Jerusalem on December 6, 2017, recognizing Israel’s capital. The US Embassy had issued instructions to move from Tel Aviv to Jerusalem. Donald Trump said during a press conference in the White House that some US presidents said they did not have the courage to move the embassy to Jerusalem. But the time has come for Jerusalem to recognize the capital.
