AFD’s provincial branch in Saxony-Anhalt begins monitoring

Berlin … News Time

The German intelligence agency has decided to secretly monitor a far-right political party that opposes Islam and immigrants. According to the German newspaper Mitteldeutsche Zeitung, oversight of the provincial branch of the ADF will begin in Saxony-Anhalt. During this time, the contacts and remittances of 1400 members of the organization will be monitored. The decision was made after years of gathering evidence about the dubious activities of the far-right party. Officials at the Internal Intelligence Agency (BFV) say the political party, particularly in the province of Saxony-Anhalt, has carried out attacks on civilians, rejecting the rule of law and undemocratic attitudes. Earlier, the organisation’s provincial branches in the eastern provinces of Baden-Wurttemberg and Theorengia were already being monitored as suspects. The investigation revealed that the political party had links with neo-Nazi groups in Germany. The extremist party won 24 percent of the vote in the last regional parliamentary election and has local support. The AFD is said to be the largest opposition party at the provincial level. On the other hand, the head of the organization in Saxony-Anhalt accused the state government of trying to weaken the organization by initiating surveillance and thus the internal secret service is being misused.
