Millions of people participated in the strike in 40 cities across the country, with clashes between people and forces at several places. According to media reports, doctors, police, lawyers, teachers and transporters also joined the protest and took part in the strike. Forces used tear gas to disperse the protesters. Citizens shut down 8 oil refineries in France, a nationwide strike has left 90% of the rail system jammed and 30% of the flights canceled. It is to be noted that the French President has announced the introduction of a point-based pension system. The current pension system in France has 42 schemes.
