European Council President Charles Michel and European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen arrived in Ankara on a visit to Turkey, where they met with President Erdogan. According to news agencies, the meeting at the Presidential Palace lasted for three and a half hours during which the issues of renewal of the March 2016 agreement, lifting of visa ban and renewal of the 25-year-old Customs Union Agreement were discussed.

Prior to the meeting, Charles Michel had tweeted that the future of relations with President Erdogan would be discussed in Ankara. According to media reports, the two European officials tried to put pressure on the Ankara government by accusing Turkey of human rights violations in the ongoing dispute with Greece and Cyprus in the Eastern Mediterranean.

On the other hand, Volkan Bozkir, the head of the 75th General Committee of the United Nations, also visited Turkey, where he visited the shrine of Mustafa Kemal Ataturk. Expressing happiness, he said that today Turkish flag is flying with UN flag at the headquarters of General Committee. During his visit, he will meet with President Recep Tayyip Erdogan. He will later address the General Committee of the National Assembly after meeting with National Assembly Speaker Mustafa Shentop and Foreign Minister Mevlüt Çavuşoğlu. The purpose of his visit is to review UN humanitarian operations across northwestern Syria.
