According to Egypt Department of Statistics data, the country’s population exceeded 100 million. Egypt is the most populous country in the Arab world. Egypt is the third most populous country in continent Africa. Egypt’s population has grown exponentially during 2019, Maj. Gen. Khair Barakat, head of the Egyptian statistics department, told media. An increase of one million was recorded in the population during 216 days. Egypt had a census in 2017. The population was 95 million at that time. Three decades ago, the number of Egyptians was 57 million.

Egypt’s population is growing in such an environment, while President Abdel Fattah Al-Sisi has termed the rising population as the country’s main challenge. The Egyptian president has appealed to the public more than once for family planning. Prime Minister Mustafa Madbouly told reporters that controlling the rate of population growth is a national security issue.
