Despite best meeting, US, Turkish Presidents Fail to resolve conflicts

Washington … News Time

US President Donald Trump called on Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan to refrain from purchasing Russian missile defense systems, calling the system a “very serious challenge” for bilateral relations. According to a foreign news agency ‘Reuters’, after a very important meeting with the Turkish president in the White House to ease tensions between the two countries, Donald Trump said he was a big fan of Recep Tayyip Erdogan and met with him. Been there however, the two leaders were unable to clarify how they would reduce the growing differences on a number of issues between the two countries. These matters include Turkey’s action against US allies in Syria and the purchase of the ‘S400′ missile defense system from Ankara’s Moscow.

At the joint press conference after the meeting, Donald Trump said that the purchase of military equipment, including the S400 from Russia to Russia, posed great challenges for us and we are constantly talking about it. “We have talked about this today and will talk in the future as well, and hopefully we will resolve the situation soon,” he said. Minutes after the press conference, the White House statement used harsh language against both leaders. The statement said that progress in other matters requires that we address the issues connected with the Purchas of the Russian S400 air defense system by Turkey and strengthen our defense partnership.

Washington says purchase of Ankara’s Russian system is incompatible with NATO defense and poses a threat to the “F35″ stealth fighter jets developed by Lockheed Martin. The United States is also concerned that Turkey is promoting relations with Moscow at the expense of its partnership with the United States. Turkey, which rejected US threats to buy the missile system, received its first shipment of the S400 in July. In order to punish Turkey, the United States banned the sale of the F-35 and expelled it from a program involving several countries producing fighter jets. On Wednesday, both leaders said they would work to resolve the matter, but did not say how it would work. The US President said that we have asked our Secretary of State, Foreign Affairs and National Security Advisors to act promptly to resolve the S400 issue.

On the other hand, Recep Tayyip Erdogan said that the two countries can overcome this conflict only through dialogue. “It is agreed between us that we will initiate a new dimension of bilateral relations and strengthen it already,” he said. Earlier, despite the differences between the two leaders, the US President received a warm welcome to his Turkish counterpart when he arrived at the White House for a meeting.
