Chinese President Xi Jinping arrived in India to attend the summit with Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi. Chinese President was welcomed at the Chennai Airport by Governor Tamil Nadu Banwarilal Purohit and on this occasion drums were played according to local Indian culture. The Indian Foreign Ministry said that Prime Minister Narendra Modi will hold talks with the Chinese President on Friday and Saturday in Malamapuram on the region and the global situation. In April last year, there was bilateral meeting between the leaders of the two countries, following which military tensions between China and India over the Bhutan issue had surfaced.

China claims 90,000 square kilometers in the northeast of India. India, however, says China has occupied 38,000 square kilometers of territory in the western Himalayas. And on the border dispute, the respective authorities of the two countries met 20 times, but no significant progress was made. A war has been fought between the two countries on this issue in 1962. India also expressed concern over the growing ceremonies and economic ties from China to neighboring countries of Sri Lanka, Nepal, Bangladesh and Maldives.

Tensions have increased in the region, especially between Pakistan and India, after India’s special status of occupied Kashmir was abolished in August this year. China had declared full support for Pakistan on the issue and had also taken a stance on the UN General Assembly meeting. That China, India should not make a unilateral decision on occupied Kashmir. It should be remembered those two days before the arrival of India, the Chinese President hosted Prime Minister Imran Khan and that is why the current visit of the Chinese President to India is considered very important.
