Kabul … News time

Afghan President Ashraf Ghani and Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi discussed the proposed meeting between Afghan personalities and Taliban representatives in Beijing. A statement issued by the Afghan government on Tuesday said that President Ashraf Ghani and Foreign Minister Wang Yi emphasized the need for a role in the peace process of the Afghan government and the people. Ashraf Ghani has insisted that his government should lead talks with the Taliban. However, Taliban protesters have refused to negotiate with their government representatives, while the future of their presidency looks uncertain, because the September presidential elections in Afghanistan have not yet been announced and Afghans are waiting for them.

The meeting was supposed to be held last month in the name of a dialogue between Afghans in the Chinese capital Beijing, but it was delayed. No new delay has been set for this meeting yet. The series of meetings was held in Qatar in July. Dialogue between Afghans is a negotiated process separate from the US and the Taliban. US President Donald Trump announces end to talks with Taliban in September and since then there has been no dialogue between US envoy Zalmay Khalilzad and the Taliban.
