Australia has decided to change its national anthem after 140 years, while the Australian government has called the change, which reflects the history of the indigenous people, a gesture of goodwill towards national unity. Australia’s long history of thousands of years of indigenous peoples has been called for in the national anthem ‘Advance Australia Fair’. Remember that until 1984, the national anthem of Australia was the British “God Save the Queen”.Later this year, the ‘Advance Australia Fair’ was adopted as the national anthem of the country. Written in 1878, the lyrics of the anthem reflected modern Australia, which the ancient Australian population had been objecting to for years and insisting on changing.

The lyrics of the first anthem were something like, “Let the people of Australia rejoice that we are young and free.” But the anthem was not equally popular. To many Native Australians, it is an anthem of the imperial era because it ignores the thousands of years of culture and history of the indigenous peoples of this region. In view of these objections, it has been decided that the second line of the hymn will be replaced with “We are another free” instead of “We are young and free”.

Australian Prime Minister Scott Morrison has called it a small but significant change, saying it reflects the sentiments of the people and is popular. He adds that some may object that this is not a significant change, while others say it is a major change and that is the beauty of democracy. Some natives have welcomed the change. He said it was a step towards recognizing his 65,000-year history and that the symbolic change was significant. However, Australian opposition leaders say it is a hollow move because changing a word in a hymn without recognizing the natives of the first nations does not make much sense. An interesting thing about the anthem is that the natives play it in their own language. Two hymns are sung in Australia’s overseas neighbor New Zealand. One is “God bless the Queen of Britain” and the other is “God protect New Zealand”.The song is sung in English and native languages.
