Afghan President Ashraf Ghani says US Secretary of State Mike Pompeo said talks between the Taliban and the US on the US withdrawal from Afghanistan have been a notable feat. Ashraf Ghani said on the social networking site Twitter posted by AFP report Mike Pompeo made a phone call informing that the Taliban had made a significant and lasting offer to reduce violence. The Afghan President said in another tweet, “It is a welcome victory and I am happy that the results of our principled stance on peace have begun to come to fruition. Our objective is to end the bloodshed.”

Taliban sources told AFP that US and Taliban negotiating delegations will meet in Qatar on Wednesday (February 12th). Citing Afghan and US officials, the New York Times reported that US President Donald Trump had approved a conditional deal with the Taliban. According to the New York Times, Donald Trump will only approve the deal if the Taliban continue to reduce violence. According to sources, the Taliban have agreed to a deal. He said that with all intents and purposes, it would be a ceasefire, but it could not be named because of different pedagogies.

Remember that US special envoy Zalma Khalilzad arrived in Kabul on February 2 for peace talks and agreements where he met with Afghan President Ashraf Ghani. Bahman Mum from the Afghan Presidential Palace would say that the US representative told Ashraf Ghani that there was no significant agreement in talks with the Taliban. But they will reach a consensus on reducing the conflict with the Taliban, but they did not say how long it will take. Later on February 10, Zalmay Khullatzad met with Mullah Bardar and the Taliban’s deputy head of the Cultural Affairs Department in Qatar. In this regard, Afghan Taliban spokesman Sohala Shahin said that Mullah Mohammad Fazal, Mullah Khairullah and Maulvi Amir Khan Muttaqi were present at the meeting of other senior Taliban leaders. He said that during the meeting with the US envoy, Qatar’s Foreign Minister was also present in which the peace process discussed important steps to be taken in the future.

It should be noted that talks between the US and the Taliban have reached their final stages in September 2019, almost a year. However, US President Donald Trump justified the alleged violence by the Taliban, calling the process “dead.” Last month, Taliban sources said they had offered a short sentence of 7 to 10 days to fire the contract call, but there was no announcement from both sides regarding the details of the offer. The bombing of US and CIA-trained Afghan Special Forces, which also killed many civilians, has been constantly criticized by human rights organizations and a few Afghan officials, resulting in the death of Afghan intelligence. The chief was also sacked. The increase in US airstrikes after 2018 has increased the number of casualties in the conflict. According to US Sterling Command data, in 2019, the US Air Force dropped 7,423 bombs in Afghanistan, while in 2018, 7,362 bombs were dropped. In 2017, the United States dropped 4,361 bombs in the war-torn region, and 1,733 bombs in 2017.
