Baghdad … News Time

Iraqi President Barham Salih nominated Adnan al-Zurfi as the country’s new prime minister. Adnan al-Zurfi will replace the caretaker Prime Minister Adel Abdul Mahdi and create an interim government within the country within 30 days after which he will get a vote of confidence from Parliament. Adel Abdul Mahdi resigned as prime minister in December due to the government’s failure to provide job opportunities to the public and nationwide protests over corruption. The 54-year-old former governor Adnan al-Zurfi has been appointed more than 2 weeks after former nominee Prime Minister Mohammad Taufiq Allawi (Mohammed Tawfiq Allawi) withdrew his nomination. Adnan al-Zurfi belongs to the Nasr parliamentary group.

Adnan al-Zurfi will replace caretaker Prime Minister Adel Abdul Mahdi, who left power in December after widespread protests against the government. It should be noted that protesters against former Prime Minister Adel Abdul Mahdi say they are corrupt and are failing to provide them basic facilities. It is to be remembered that on February 2, former Minister of Telecommunication Mohammad Tawfiq Allawi was appointed Prime Minister of the country. However, he failed to form his cabinet during the Constitutional Period after a month after which the responsibility has been entrusted to the new Prime Minister.
