London … News Time

Since the UK’s expulsion from the EU, about 5 million Europeans living there have applied for permanent residence permits in the UK alone, the vast majority of whom are EU citizens. The UK Home Office has confirmed that out of an estimated 4.9 million Europeans, 4.4 million applicants have so far been allowed to stay in the UK in the future. Of these, the applications of about 34,000 European citizens have so far been rejected.

It should be noted that the United Kingdom withdrew from the European Union early last year, after which the one-year transition period of Brexit began, which ended on January 1 this year. As a former EU member state, the UK was also a member of the European Internal Market and citizens of EU member states were allowed to come and go, work and reside there without hindrance. This facility has been discontinued since its exit from the market. Under the Brexit agreement, Europeans living in the UK and British citizens residing in EU member states were given the option to choose to take up permanent residence wherever they wished.

Under the Bridgett Agreement with Brussels, London, citizens of the United Kingdom and the European Union can apply for permanent residency wherever they are, so that they will have the same rights in the future as in the past. However, these residents will have to apply to the British or European authorities by June 30 this year.
