Israel, US defense chiefs discuss Iran

Tel Aviv … News Time

Israeli Defense Minister Benny Gantz has urged his US counterpart Lloyd James Austin to halt Iranian activities in the region. Speaking on the phone, Benny Gantz said that an effective policy against Iran should be formulated. On the occasion, the US Secretary of Defense said that his country is committed to maintaining Israel’s military superiority. Meanwhile, US Central Command Commander General Kenneth F. McKenzie has arrived in Israel on a two-day official visit. The visit will focus on the Iranian threat. According to the Israeli military, Kenneth F. McKenzie will hold a strategic review with the Israeli army’s chief of staff, Aviv Kochavi. The two leaders will also discuss ways to strengthen regional co-operation to counter recent threats.

According to the Israeli army’s chief of staff, the long-standing strategic military relationship between the United States and Israel is a key component in strengthening Israel’s national security and its superiority over its enemies. The Pentagon decided earlier this month to exclude Israel from US military command operations in Europe and to join the Central Command with Arab countries in the Middle East. Israeli Chief of Staff Aviv Kochavi told a news conference yesterday that the withdrawal of the United States from the international agreement with Tehran over Iran’s nuclear program would be the worst action and would not be allowed.
