The foreign ministers of the two countries had a telephone conversation on Friday night. Foreign Minister Shah Mehmood Qureshi and his US counterpart Anthony J. Blinken discussed important issues. The two Foreign Ministers discussed in detail issues of mutual interest, including bilateral relations and the promotion of bilateral cooperation in various fields.

Foreign Minister Makhdoom Shah Mehmood Qureshi congratulated US Secretary of State Anthony J. Blinken on assuming office and wished him well. On the occasion, the Foreign Minister said that Pakistan is committed to establishing a comprehensive partnership with the United States. Pakistan and the United States want a political solution to the Afghan problem through comprehensive dialogue. There is a need to reduce the incidence of violence in Afghanistan in order to pave the way for a peaceful political solution to the Afghan problem. On the occasion, the US Secretary of State also paid tribute to Pakistan’s role and sacrifices in the war on terror. The two leaders also discussed the Supreme Court’s decision in the Daniel Pearl case.
