Sri Lanka President Gotabaya Rajapaksa has appointed 35 new ministers and three new deputy ministers in the new interim government, who will work until the announcement of the next parliamentary election. The new Ministers of State and Deputy Ministers took the oath before the President in the Presidential Secretariat in the capital Colombo. Some of the new appointments include senior Sri Lankan Podujana Peramuna (SLPP). Chamal Rajapaksa has been appointed the new Minister of Defense and John Seneviratne has been named Minister of Economic and Policy Development, while Susil Premajayantha has been appointed Minister of State for International Relations. Others include Keheliya Rambukwella who has been appointed Minister of State for Investment Promotion and Arundika Fernando as Minister for Tourism Promotion. These new appointments come into force just days after the president appointed a new 16-member cabinet. It should be noted that Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe retired from his post after defeating his party’s candidate in Sri Lanka on November 16.
