Rabat … News Time

A group of Moroccan lawyers has recently challenged the government’s decision to recognize Israel and establish relations with the Zionist state in the country’s highest court. According to the Palestinian Information Center, the petitioners have taken the position that the announcement of normalization of relations with Israel is tantamount to deviating from Morocco’s principled and national position, violating international resolutions and denying the rights of Palestinians. Therefore, the court should immediately annul the government agreements reached with Israel. Lawyers have confirmed that they have challenged the government’s decision on relations with Israel in the country’s high court. Lawyers do not recognize the diplomatic, political, economic and tourism agreements between the Moroccan government and Israel. Among the lawyers challenging the Moroccan government’s decision on relations with Israel are Advocate Abdel-Rahman bin Omro, Abdel-Rahim al-Jamiai, Advocate Abdel-Rahim bin Barka and others. He appealed to the country’s highest court to immediately annul all agreements reached between the government and Israel.

It should be noted that Morocco had recently announced the establishment of relations with Israel and with this announcement; the United States had recognized Morocco’s sovereignty over the disputed region of Western Sahara. It may be recalled that a day earlier, Dr. Fazli Zon, Vice Chairman of the Indonesian Parliament for Al-Quds Coordination Group and Chairman of the Parliamentary Committee on International Cooperation, had taken a blunt stance on relations with Israel, saying that it was a question of establishing ties.
