Iraqi parliament approves new election law protesters were demanding a new law to make the next election transparent. According to Asharq al-Awsat, Iraqi parliament speaker Mohamed al-Halbousi said parliament has approved a new law for elections. Voters will be able to vote for a candidate individually instead of voting for a party list. Under the new law, each Member of Parliament will be a representative from a single constituency rather than from different provinces.

Keep in mind that the new law will take effect once it is published in the Official Gazette. It contains 50 provisions. It streamlines the campaigning process and the counting of votes in upcoming elections. Shiite leader Muqtada al-Sadr said in a statement on Twitter that the new law would eliminate all corrupt parties. Another demand of the people was fulfilled, with the demand of the country’s sensible, principled and central people in the hearts of the people. He said that every patriot, honorable MP and others worked for the new election law now, eagerly awaiting the establishment of a transparent Election Commission will not be satisfied with less.

It should be remembered that the protesters made many demands, including the new law for transparent elections. There was also a demand that certain political parties in the country be excluded from politics. The Prime Minister should be someone who has nothing to do with any party. Iraqi protests have been taking place in Iraq since October 1. Demonstrators demand that the political system established by the Americans after the collapse of the Saddam Hussein regime in 2003 be changed, because of it, Iran is controlling every part of Iraq. So far 480 people have been killed and more than 25,000 injured during protests in Iraq.
