Nepalese Prime Minister K P Sharma Oli has rejected India’s process of displaying Kalapani territory in its map and demanded that the Indian army withdraw from there. Indian Express reports that K P Sharma Oli said that Kalapani Nepal, which borders Nepal, India and Tibet, is owned by Nepal. And India should immediately withdraw its troops from there. Addressing a meeting of the Youth Wing of the Communist Party of Nepal, he said that we would not allow any country to occupy even an inch of our territory; India should vacate the area in any case.

In his response to the controversial map released by India, he said Nepal would not accept the new map. And if India calls back its troops from our territory then there will be talks. Remember that India had on August 5 suspended Article 370 of the Constitution to abolish the special status of the occupied Jammu and Kashmir. After this, a new but controversial map, including Jammu and Kashmir and Ladakh, was released earlier this month, India also showed Pakistan’s well-managed Azad Kashmir and Gilgit-Baltistan in a controversial map which was rejected by Pakistan altogether. Pakistan, in its statement, described New Delhi’s move as a complete violation of the UN Security Council resolution. Later, Nepal’s Foreign Ministry said in its January 6 statement that the government’s position is clear that Kalapani is located within Nepal’s borders.

India has said in our map that the free area of India is displayed in our map; the new map does not examine our border with Nepal, border affairs with Nepal are already under way. In response to Nepal, India had said that India and Nepal should protect wider interests. Following India’s move, mass protests were launched in Nepal and the government was urged to demand that India vacate the area. Both the Nepalese government and the opposition protested jointly on the matter and former Prime Ministers and Foreign Ministers also attended the rally of Prime Minister K P Sharma Oli and urged them to take up the matter with India immediately.
