Damascus … News Time

In Syria, US warplanes bombed Iranian positions, killing 17 militants and wounding several others. According to the International News Agency, the US Air Force bombed the bases of Iranian-backed militias in the eastern region of Deir Ez-Zor in Syria, killing 17 fighters of the pro-Iranian armed group and injuring several others. The Syrian Observatory for Human Rights confirmed that 17 Iranian-backed militia fighters had been killed in US airstrikes. The attacks were authorized by US President Joe Biden in response to attacks on US installations and embassies in Iraq. The Pentagon said in a statement that the airstrikes targeted militant hideouts and destroyed weapons depots. There was no immediate comment from Syria on the US military operation. Iran has also not yet responded to US attacks in Syria, but tensions that began with former President Trump’s withdrawal from the global nuclear deal and economic sanctions have not eased since the new US administration took office.
