US Secretary of State Anthony Blankenship has told his Israeli counterpart that a two-state solution to the Israeli-Palestinian conflict is the best for Israel’s future. According to Arab News, a statement issued by the US State Department on Monday said that the Secretary of State has outlined the US vision for a better future for Israelis, Palestinians and the Middle East. According to the US State Department, during a telephone call with Israeli Foreign Minister Gabi Ashkenazi, the US Secretary of State said that the Biden administration believes that a two-nation solution is the only way to ensure a Jewish and democratic state of Israel. The solution is to live peacefully with a democratic Palestinian state. The Foreign Ministers of the two countries discussed security challenges in the region and continued cooperation to address these issues. Gabi Ashkenazi and Blinken praised the enduring partnership between Israel and the United States and pledged that the two countries would work together to meet the challenges ahead. The Biden administration announced in January the resumption of relations with the Palestinians and the renewal of aid to Palestinian refugees. Richard Mills, the acting US ambassador to the United Nations, told the Security Council that President Joe Biden’s Middle East policy would be mutually supportive of a two-state solution in which Israel would live in peace and security. The existence of the Palestinian state also existed side by side. He said the Biden administration intends to resume aid to the Palestinians and to reopen diplomatic missions that were closed by the Trump administration.
